Once a written grievance has been received, a hearing must be arranged within the timescales stipulated in the organisation’s Grievance Procedure. Often this will be within 5 working days of the letter being received.

The line manager who is hearing the grievance and making the decision should have another manager or third party with them at the hearing. That person can then take notes and witness what was said.

It is important to ensure that all relevant documents are available at the hearing.
