The Right to be Accompanied

The employee has the right to bring a companion to a formal grievance hearing who must be:

• A work colleague employed by the organisation
• Or if a trade union representative (if the employee is a member of a trade union)

The companion can:

• Present the employee’s case
• Ask questions
• Sum up

However, any direct questions put to the employee, must be answered by the employee.
