It is essential to:
- Introduce everyone who is present
- Focus on the issues raised in the grievance letter
- Not get side-tracked onto other issues unless they are directly relevant to the grievance
- Adjourn when necessary including if the employee raises issues which the line manager was not aware of at the outset
- Arrange an interpreter if English is not the employee’s first language
- Consider any reasonable adjustments if the employee has a disability
