Tips for the Hearing

It is essential to:

  • Introduce everyone who is present
  • Focus on the issues raised in the grievance letter
  • Not get side-tracked onto other issues unless they are directly relevant to the grievance
  • Adjourn when necessary including if the employee raises issues which the line manager was not aware of at the outset
  • Arrange an interpreter if English is not the employee’s first language
  • Consider any reasonable adjustments if the employee has a disability

A script can be prepared beforehand to keep the hearing on track
